Weather Notice | Feb. 19, 2025
Classes and activities will resume and offices will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, when the university will return to normal operations.
The university will remain in Condition 2, Suspended Operations, until 10 a.m. One Card access will remain disabled for all nonresidential students and nonmandatory employees until 10 a.m.
You are advised to use your best judgment and err on the side of caution when making any travel decisions. If your local road conditions are unsafe, please contact your supervisor or dean if you are unable to report to campus when the university reopens. Due to a delay in the rehearsal process, the Thursday night performances of “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune” and Winter Dance are canceled and will resume on Friday, Feb. 21. Additional performances for “Frankie and Johnny” and Winter Dance been added on Sunday at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively. Ticket holders will be notified about exchanges tomorrow.

Due to anticipated snow and sleet and out of an abundance of caution, all classes, rehearsals and activities are canceled on Wednesday, Feb. 19. UNCSA will move to Condition 2, Suspended Operations, at midnight tonight.
One Card access will be disabled for all nonresidential students and nonmandatory employees; however, residential students will retain access to Artist Village and Hanes Student Commons. Once UNCSA enters Condition 2, high school residential students will only be permitted to leave campus with parents and/or guardians. On Wednesday, The Hector Manual Lopez, Jr. Dining Hall will be open for brunch from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and dinner from 4-7 p.m. The Food Hive at Artist Village will be open normal hours. All other Dining locations will be closed. Students with scheduled appointments in the Counseling Center will be offered telehealth appointments instead of in-person on Wednesday.
With supervisor approval, employees may either telework or work remotely from an alternate location. Alternatively, employees may use adverse weather leave and be permitted to make up the absence within 90 days.
UNCSA officials will send another update on Wednesday evening regarding the status of classes, performances, offices and activities for Thursday. Updates will be communicated via UNCSA Alert, on the UNCSA home page, on the school’s Facebook and X (Twitter) platforms, and via local media outlets.
Any time adverse weather poses a significant safety concern for the campus community, UNCSA officials may decide to reduce or suspend campus operations, delay the start of classes and/or the opening of offices, or postpone or cancel performances and events. UNCSA’s Adverse Weather Regulation provides guidance for all employees and students when adverse weather conditions impact normal operations.
Our decisions will always be made with the safety of the campus community in mind. Similarly, we ask all students and employees to please use your best judgment and err on the side of caution when making any travel decisions.

Campus Events and Services Update | Jan. 12, 2025
Hours of Operation on Sunday, Jan. 12
Hector Lopez Dining Hall:
- Brunch: Resumes at noon until 2 p.m.(Potentially Limited Stations due to Delayed Staff Arrivals)
- Lite Dinner: 2-4 p.m.
- Dinner: 4-7 p.m.
- Pickle Jar: Late Night: 7-11 p.m.
- Studio Brew Cafe: Noon until Midnight
- Artist Village Hives: Opens at Noon and will remain open 24 hours.
- Hanes Hive: Opens at Noon until 10 p.m.
Drama Auditions: Canceled for Sunday, Jan. 12.
Fletcher Opera Auditions: These auditions will still occur as scheduled on Sunday, Jan. 12.
Bassoon Conference: The Bassoon Conference will be moved offsite today, Saturday, Jan. 11. Vendors should contact the University Police Department at 336-770-3321 for reference items on campus. Sunday’s Bassoon Competition will take place as planned. Due to icy conditions, Gray Building studios will be unavailable. PTI Airport Shuttles: Shuttles will leave from PTI Airport at the following times for each day listed.
- Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025: 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
- Monday, Jan, 13, 2025: Noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

UNCSA to remain in Condition 2
Following Winter Storm Cora, the university will remain in Condition 2, Suspended Operations, until noon tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 12. During this time, all activities on campus are canceled. One Card access will be disabled for all nonmandatory faculty and staff and nonresidential students and there will be no access to any buildings on campus.
The university will move to Condition 1, Reduced Operations at noon on Sunday, Jan. 12 through 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14. While the university will be open to support student move-in on Sunday, we encourage all other activities on campus to be canceled to allow Facilities to focus on residential areas. Access to buildings will stay in a controlled state, and doors that are normally unlocked will be card-accessible only. As some services or activities may be limited, please check back for more information. If you have questions about activities scheduled for your arts school or department, please contact your dean or supervisor.

Please be aware that some slick conditions may remain on campus as temperatures will not rise much above freezing during the weekend. Condition 2, Suspended Operations, at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10
UNCSA officials are closely monitoring the approach of Winter Storm Cora. Our area is currently under a Winter Storm Watch. Weather forecasts show Winston-Salem could receive 1-3 inches of snow and ice with precipitation beginning Friday afternoon, Jan. 10.
To allow faculty and staff the time to travel safely, the university will move to Condition 2 – Suspended Operations at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10. During this time, all activities on campus are canceled. One Card access will be disabled for all nonmandatory faculty and staff and nonresidential students and there will be no access to any buildings on campus. Please plan accordingly. If you have questions about activities scheduled for your arts school or department, please contact your dean or supervisor.
At this time, the spring semester move-in is still scheduled for noon on Sunday, Jan. 12.
UNCSA officials will reassess the weather situation early Saturday, Jan. 11, and an update will be provided to campus by 9 a.m. Saturday.
