Bomb Threats
Procedures to follow if a bomb threat is received at UNCSA.
Threat by Phone
If a bomb threat is received by phone:
- Remain calm. Listen to the caller carefully.
- Keep the caller talking so you can gather as much information as possible. Record the caller ID number, time, and date. Use the Bomb Threat Information Sheet to ask the caller questions, until he/she ends the call.
- Call UNCSA Department of Police & Public Safety at “55” from campus phone, or 336-770-3362 from other phones. Or have someone else call UNCSA Police, immediately upon receiving the bomb threat. Follow all instructions of police and emergency responders.
Bomb Threat Information Sheet
Get the caller's phone number on display and ask them:
- Where is the bomb located?
- When is the bomb going to explode?
- What does it look like?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- What will cause it to explode?
- Did you place the bomb?
- Why did you do it?
- What is your address?
- What is your name?
- Sex of caller
- Approximate age
Threat by Handwritten Note
- Call UNCSA Department of Police & Public Safety at “55” from campus phone, or 336-770-3362 from other phones.
- Handle note as minimally as possible.
Threat by Email
- Call UNCSA Department of Police & Public Safety at “55” from campus phone, or 336-770-3362 from other phones.
- Do not delete the message.
Do Not
If you receive a bomb threat, do not do the following:
- Activate the fire alarm.
- Evacuate the building until police arrive and evaluate the threat.
