High School Profile

At UNCSA, high school students are admitted by audition to the Schools of Dance, Visual Arts within Design and Production, Drama and Music. The High School Academic Program provides a well-rounded liberal arts education, with full-time faculty who hold graduate degrees in either education or their discipline of instruction.

In addition, supporting programs and services in Student Life assist students in their personal development within a residential setting. The arts and academic curricula culminate in a high school diploma with an arts concentration in dance, drama, music or visual arts.

Statistics

The UNCSA graduating high school class averages 120 students annually. Typically, students in the top 50% of the class hold grade point averages above 3.5 unweighted.

AP Exam Scores

In 2023, 141 students (of 247 total and 190 eligible), or 57.1% of UNCSA High School students (74.2% of eligible students), took 270 AP Exams with a mean score of 3.82. Across all exams, 85% of students earned a “3” or higher.

Tuition Waivers

The Tuition Grant Program provides free tuition for in-state students graduating from the High School Program. Those graduates who are accepted into and enroll in college full time at a constituent UNC System institution can attend college at UNCSA or any other UNC System institution tuition-free. 

60 of 112 graduates in the class of 2023 are currently attending UNC System schools. 54 of those are in-state and receiving the tuition waiver.
