Performance Overview
This faculty recital featuring Oskar Espina Ruiz, clarinet, and Dmitri Vorobiev, piano, celebrates the work of women composers.
The recital opens with an “homage” to the venerable Amy Beach, with excerpts from her “Grandmother’s Garden,” and continues with visionary works from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, including Gabriela Lena Frank’s haunting “Hilos,” or “Threads”; Jamaican-born Eleanor Alberga’s exuberant Duo from “Dancing with the Shadow”; and the Clarinet Sonata by one of America’s most esteemed and performed living female composers, three-time Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winner Jennifer Higdon.
