Meet the Studio
Sidney Cherry
Sidney Cherry is a sophomore undergraduate euphonium player at UNCSA with a focus in euphonium performance. Cherry graduated from UNCSA in 2022 through the high school program and then continued his journey at UNCSA again under the tutelage of Dr. Brent Harvey.
Cherry plays with the UNCSA Wind Ensemble, Chamber Winds and the UNCSA Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, “The Pickled Eutubiams,” performing in this chamber ensemble’s first ever recital in UNCSA history. Outside of his school life, Cherry enjoys playing video games, building models, watching movies and listening to music.
Avery Greene
Avery Greene is a fourth-year undergraduate student at UNCSA. Greene received his diploma from Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, NC, and is currently attending UNCSA to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Tuba Performance.
Greene has performed in many different types of ensembles at school, such as symphony orchestra, brass quintet, wind ensemble and tuba-euphonium quartet. He has also been able to play in some professional groups such as Winston-Salem Symphony and Piedmont Wind Symphony.
During Greene's time at UNCSA, he has had the opportunity to learn from many well-known musicians such as Demondrae Thurman, David Fedderly, Bethany Weiss and Seth Horner. Outside of his musical endeavors, Greene likes going for walks, trying different styles of food and spending time with his cats.
Ivan Potts
Ivan Potts is a high school sophomore and tuba player at UNCSA. Potts has been playing the tuba for a little over four years, and this is his second year at UNCSA. Potts has enjoyed many performances in large ensembles and my brass quintet, most especially the opportunity to play in a quintet recital in the Spring of 2023 along with the 208th Army Band Brass Quintet, U.S. Army Reserve.
Over the summer, Potts attended the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference (ITEC) at Arizona State University – which he felt was super exciting as a self-proclaimed tuba nerd – and he is glad to be back at UNCSA again this year. Aside from music, Potts enjoys other things like first aid and cooking (specifically they make an awesome crab dip, in their humble opinion), and he has been getting into writing, as well.
Drake Stewart
Over the last few years, Drake Stewart has had a variety of musical experiences; from public school concert and marching bands, an experience that was extremely chaotic (3 band directors over 4 years can to do that); to performing with the Triangle Youth Brass Bands in Raleigh, NC for the past three years, where his individual and ensemble involvement was exceptional and extremely rewarding.
As Drake continues this musical adventure, he is now at UNCSA for his final year of high school—a wonderful environment where he is going to broaden his horizons, practice more, perform in high-level musical atmospheres, and immerse himself in the world of music and the community at UNCSA. Drake can’t wait for an amazing first year at UNCSA, and last year of high school, of amazing performances. Oh, and his name is Drake Stewart…but you can call him Drake!
