Lucas Ingle, a native of Winston-Salem, is a first-year undergraduate pursuing a bachelor's degree in saxophone performance under Dr. Robert Young. A passionate performer and advocate for new music, Lucas strives to connect audiences and performers with the deeply rich works of living composers. Beyond performance, he is actively researching how lifestyle and longevity practices can enhance musicians' careers and well-being, leading him to research at many industry conferences and be awarded various grants for continued work. He is very excited to share this wonderful campus with you!
What brought you to UNCSA?
My professor, Dr. Robert Young, is deeply committed to supporting his students by finding personalized ways for them to develop their unique sounds and careers; this is the exact training that I wanted as a classical saxophonist. I wanted to be a part of a studio that upholds an environment of openness and dedication, always looking for ways that we can connect our work to greater audiences on and off campus, I believe that Dr. Young and the UNCSA saxophone studio strives to be just that. Beyond the studio, the school of music’s immensely distinguished faculty provided me with an array of perspectives to learn and develop alongside. Also, it is an absolute gift to be able to hear both faculty and guest artists in concert almost weekly!
What is your favorite spot in Winston and why?
Quarry Park is by far my favorite place to go to in Winston! It is such a peaceful trail around the Grant Park rock quarry and also has probably one of the best skyline views of downtown Winston. After visiting campus, make sure to check it out!
