Alyssa James (she/her) is an actress, singer and board game enthusiast hailing from Queens, NY and Apopka, FL. Her passion for the theatre was ignited at a young age from her first grade role as Mother Nature. While she may not remember her lines from that show, she definitely remembers the spark she felt from creating and sharing a story with others. Alyssa has always felt connected to art that taps into the absurdity of being alive, and she hopes to explore the dissonance between the darkness and comedy that arises from the human experience in her work.
During her time at UNCSA, Alyssa played #11 in "The Wolves" (Sara DeLappe; dir. Sarah Hankins), Beggar Woman in "Sweeney Todd" (Stephen Sondheim; dir. Lo Feliciano Ojeda) and had the unique experience of devising and acting in "Mother Tongue" with her peers (dir. Marina Zurita). Some of her upcoming roles include Elizabeth in "Witch" (Jen Silverman; dir. Diego Vazquez Gomez), Ben in "Matt and Ben" (Mindy Kaling and Brenda Withers; dir. Caroline Cearley), and "The Effect" (Lucy Prebble; dir. Vivian Farahani).
She is endlessly grateful for the opportunity to study her craft and develop an artistic community at UNCSA. She will be graduating with a B.F.A. in Drama in Spring of 2023.
