Overview

Get ready to be wowed by an electrifying contemporary music program, “Roots & Rhizomes,” featuring folk-inspired and classical works that have been reconfigured, reimagined and transcribed for piano and marimba/vibraphone by the Vesna Duo, featuring Liana Pailodze Harron, piano, and Ksenija Komljenović, marimba.

As if Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” isn’t thrilling enough on its own, hearing it in the duo’s version promises a whole new experience. The same holds true for the other pieces on the concert, Gershwin’s "Prelude No. 1," Saint-Saëns' haunting "Danse Macabre," Debussy’s luminous "Clair de Lune," and Pärt’s introspective "Variations for The Healing of Arinushka," each piece offering a journey through diverse musical landscapes.

Named for a goddess of youth and springtime in Slavic mythology, the Vesna Duo has been described by Kira Grunenberg of National Public Radio as a “master class in performative focus, as well as an exquisite demonstration of musician chemistry to the most natural and audibly entrancing of results.”
