Murphy Applin Jr. is hardworking and dedicated. Murphy is dedicating his time on something that isn’t noticed often by society. He has dedicated himself and time to leaving behind a legacy. The legacy of being tired of sticking out like a sore thumb. Tired of being one of few African-Americans at a school or anywhere.
He wants there to be more diversity in schools. Murphy wants to impact the people who come after him. During the process of building this legacy Murphy has learned to balance his schedule with 2-3 drama classes and rehearsals from 6pm to 10pm. Murphy has been building his legacy with Artists of Color for three years now.
While making change in society is without a doubt difficult, the hardest thing for Murphy is managing his classes with Artist of Color meetings. Murphy joined Artists of Color for the sense of community so he doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Artists of Color also gives him resources to make his ideas possible.
Murphy uses his ideas to help find the success of getting more students engaged. He wants people to come up to him after a show or presentation and say they were moved in a way or that they were impacted.
