Making a Report

Making a Report

Before making a report, you do not need to conduct your own investigation or be certain that mistreatment has occurred.

Make a report if:

  • You know or suspect that a minor is suffering abuse or neglect.

Make a report regardless of:

  • Whom the suspected abuser may be – a family member, teacher, religious leader, minor, or coach.
  • Where the abuse or neglect may be occurring, for example in the home or at UNCSA.

Who to make a report to?

The reporting county in Winston-Salem is Forsyth County. You can report abuse or neglect by calling:

Forsyth County Department of Social Services
336-703-3800
741 North Highland Ave.
Winston-Salem, NC 27101

A directory of all 100 county DSS can be found on the Local DSS Directory

Immediate Risk of Harm

If the minor requires immediate medical services call 911.

If you encounter a situation in which a minor is at immediate risk of harm or the victim of a criminal act, you must report it to UNCSA Campus Police, emergency number 336-770-3362, or the appropriate law enforcement immediately by dialing 911.

UNCSA Campus Police or the appropriate law enforcement will make a final determination as to whether a matter merits further investigation. The reporter must not attempt to investigate or make judgments independently of law enforcement.

Reporting to UNCSA officials does not relieve the obligation of a the reporter to also make a report directly to law enforcement in the event the minor is at immediate risk

In addition to reporting to UNCSA Campus Police, the reporting party must notify one the following offices:

  • UNCSA Title IX Office: If the situation involves alleged sexual misconduct, harassment or assault of minors or adults.
  • UNCSA Human Resources Department: If the situation involves alleged inappropriate behavior or misconduct by employees.
