New Personal Leave Option for EPS employees
Pursuant to UNC Policy 300.2.22 and UNC Policy Regulation 300.2.22.1 (Leave Programs for Faculty and Staff Exempt from the North Carolina Human Resources Act), the following outlines changes to employee leave programs:
- There will be two leave programs for EPS employees after Jan. 1, 2025
- Annual Leave Program (current (Legacy) leave program) and
- Personal Leave Program (new leave program)
- The NEW Personal Leave Program will be mandatory for EPS employees hired after Jan. 1, 2025.
- No change to how current EPS employees accrue leave/vacation — Employees hired prior to Jan. 1, 2025, are "grandfathered in" and retain the current Annual Leave Program as-is.
- Current EPS employees can choose to move to the new personal leave program.
- Employees can elect to change to the personal leave program, in which employees can retain a maximum of 30 legacy annual leave days
- Employees can continue to use/expend any retained annual leave, which will be tracked in EZ Arts.
- Upon employment separation or transfer to another UNC institution, those days must be paid out — annual leave can no longer transfer.
- Any Annual Leave in excess of 30 days (240 hours) will be forfeited upon the election to transfer to the personal leave program.
- If Annual leave is retained, employees will have both types of leave tracked (until Annual leave is expended, like bonus leave) or paid out upon separation.
- Any voluntary move from Annual leave to Personal leave is irrevocable! (No changing back to Annual leave)
Information sessions are available on the Human Resources Learning and Development page for Jan. 14, 21, 22, and 23.
