Recording Academy membership opportunities

The Recording Academy logoMichael Winger, a faculty member and project director for UNCSA Media, has been a voting member of the GRAMMYs / Recording Academy for nearly 20 years. A former executive director for the Academy, he continues to be actively involved in the organization and is working to grow membership among music artists in North Carolina.

Winger is looking for music artists to grow Recording Academy membership and bring more recognition to the music creators from UNCSA and in North Carolina. If you have released music in the past five years, you may be eligible for Voting Membership in the Recording Academy, allowing you to submit your work for consideration and cast your vote in the 2026 GRAMMY Awards.

Why Join the Recording Academy?

Membership offers music creators opportunities to:

  • Advocate collectively to protect the rights of music makers and advance creators’ interests on important policy matters.
  • Participate in the Recording Academy’s GRAMMY U mentorship programs and training sessions, which lift up music’s next generation of aspiring creative and business leaders.
  • Support music preservation and education through the GRAMMY Museum’s philanthropic work to keep music in our schools and introduce its power and legacy to young people everywhere.
  • Help others get by during times of need through MusiCares' charitable work and programs.
  • Recommend peers for membership.
  • Participate in the GRAMMY Awards process, including submissions for GRAMMY consideration, propose rule changes to the awards process, and for Voting Members only, vote for the GRAMMY Awards.
  • Connect with peers through member-only events and initiatives.

Additionally, GRAMMY U membership is available for students, offering emerging music industry professionals and creatives networking opportunities, events and resources to help grow their careers in the music industry.
