Michael Winger is the Project Director of UNCSA Media and adjunct professor at UNCSA for Intro to Recording, Music Technology and Music Business. He is also the co-founder and CEO of ArtistManagers.io, a platform enabling artists to book 30-min meetings with managers.

As a former executive for the GRAMMY Awards, Winger worked with Tycho, The National and the San Francisco Symphony where he also helped pass the Music Modernization Act through Congress. As a producer and engineer, he has recorded Regina Spektor, Tom Petty, Kronos Quartet, The Pretenders, Feist and many others. He began his music career as the songwriter, guitarist and lead singer for the Athens, Georgia indie rock band Dayroom, touring 200 shows a year in the U.S. and Europe a year for nearly a decade.

Winger believes learning the technical skills, theory and mechanics of the music industry are critically important, as are the development of identity, philosophy and values to thrive in a competitive world of creativity. Lessons must be more than just retaining information; students must identify and develop their own goals to achieve success.

Education should be applicable to the real world and equip students with the skills to adapt to an ever-changing marketplace. Innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship are the hallmark of successful music professionals whether they are artists, performers, producers, engineers or managers. There is no better teacher than hands-on experience.
