Halloween Safety Tips from UNCSA Police
As many are gearing up for the impending Halloween celebrations, I wanted to share some insight and safety tips for the UNCSA community. Our desire is for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Halloween! We strive for our students to always be informed, safe, and mindful, especially when potentially celebrating off campus.
General Safety Tips
- Costumes: Choose a costume that is safe, can be readily identified as a costume, and is non-threatening. Your costume should not impede your vision nor hinder your mobility should the need arise to navigate from a situation hastily. Refrain from costumes with weapons that may be construed as real and may terrorize the general public.
- Stay in groups: Please travel in groups. Apprise someone when you will be leaving and when you plan on returning. Have a plan should an emergency arise, i.e., who will call the police, have a flashlight, and whistle handle to help attract attention in an emergency occurrence.
- Walking: If walking, be sure to walk on the sidewalks and wear something reflective so the motoring public can see you should the need arise to cross the street.
- Trick-or-treating: If trick-or-treating outside of campus, do so at well-known business establishments that have or are advertising their participation in Halloween or at known residences. Refrain from trick-or-treating at unknown residences and NEVER enter the residence of a stranger.
- General Safety: Remember the safest place to be during Halloween is on the campus of UNCSA or at the residence of family or friends.
