Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness about the impact of domestic violence and to support survivors, while honoring the resilience of those who have experienced it. Domestic violence isn’t just physical; it includes emotional, psychological and sexual abuse, and can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, background or relationship type.
At UNCSA, we’re committed to standing together to support survivors and foster a community of respect and safety. It's important to recognize that young people are significantly affected by this issue, making it vital to raise awareness within our campus community. Throughout the month, the Safe Team will be hosting a variety of events and activities to raise awareness, provide resources, and spark important conversations. Here’s what we have planned:
Movie Screening: Perks of Being a Wallflower
Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m., ACE Theater
Join us as we kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a screening of this powerful film.
Turn the Campus Purple
Thursday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Outside the Dining Hall
Wear purple to show support for survivors and stop by our table for giveaways, resources, and the chance to leave messages of hope and encouragement on our Purple Heart Wall.
Guys Night Out
Friday, Oct. 25, 6–7 p.m., The Fishbowl, Hanes Commons Room 301
This session will focus on fostering real conversations about how men can be allies in the fight against gender-based violence.
We encourage everyone to stand together in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Together, we can make a difference and raise awareness.
