Rise in respiratory infections

A person washing their hands at the sink. Let's break the chain of infection! There is a sharp rise in respiratory infections on campus, like the common cold, flu and COVID-19. As we return to campus this Fall semester, we want to remind everyone how to decrease the chances of getting ill:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick whenever possible.
  • If you are sick with a cough, cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms, wearing a mask helps stop the spread of illness.
  • Wear a mask if you are going to be in a crowded or closed space to prevent inhaling the airborne cold, flu and COVID-19 viruses.
  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water frequently or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hand.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Practice good health habits such as drinking plenty of fluids and eating nutritious food.
  • Get a flu vaccine when they arrive in October (available for students at Health Services & Counseling Center).
The Health Services and Counseling Services team wants everyone to remain healthy, happy and whole.
