Trisha Mohta

Trisha Mohta is an undergraduate performing artist from Kolkata, India, currently pursuing a BFA in Contemporary Dance at the UNC School of the Arts, alongside a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship. Her eleven years of training include the study of various disciplines such as Kathak & Odissi (Indian classical forms), Countertechnique, Horton, Floorwork, Contact Improvisation, Ballet, Hip-Hop, West African, Bollywood, and Indian Folk dance forms. Most recently, she has worked with choreographers including Juel D. Lane, Sidra Bell, Emily Nicolaou, Ming-Lung Yang, Kira Blazek-Ziaii, and Brenda Daniels.

Trisha's choreographic experience spans from solos to groups for both competitions and concerts. Her pieces are heavily influenced by patterns, cultures, and human behaviors and attributes. In her exploration of how elements beyond movement can enhance the impact of a piece, she has worked on multiple dance films, physical theater pieces, and site-specific projects. Interested in storytelling, building community, leadership, and creating an inclusive environment, she wants to pursue a career as a collaborative artist.

Service has always been an integral part of Trisha's life. Even as a high school student, she helped teach under-resourced children, organized holiday events and coordinated fundraising. Today, she works with elders living with dementia at the Williams Adult Day Center to facilitate healing through movement. Passionate about community engagement and always looking to fuel curiosity, Trisha is excited to connect with artists from any and all genres and backgrounds.
