Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Michael Washington fell in love with theater at a young age. From doing local shows at CLO to taking acting lessons on the weekends, she had her heart set on performing. However, it wasn’t until high school that she really started to see the depth of the craft.
At 14, Michael started attending the Creative and Performing Arts High School where she was introduced to the great August Wilson and his Century Cycle. Studying Mr. Wilson’s technique and the nuances of his writing, she clung to the text like Shakespeare, winning the regional August Wilson Monologue Competition and going to compete nationally. Michael found the magic in stories written by us, for us; connecting to other artists of color and celebrating the beauty that lives within the black community.
In college, she has had the opportunity to engage in student and independent films that have gone on to win festivals ("Hard Feelings," directed by Jo Hatcher and "You Know His Name," directed by Clarke Phillips), as well as participating in mainstage productions such as "Stick Fly" and devising work with "Love and Depositions."
A spiritual soul, Michael enjoys practicing sound bowl healing techniques, tarot, emerging herself in music, and writing. Forever grateful for the opportunity to attend her dream school, Michael looks forward to the next chapter of her artistic journey.
