Meleysha Wooten

Meleysha Wooten, an accomplished artist based in North Carolina, has dedicated a remarkable 16 years to the world of dance. Her journey commenced at the age of 12 when she embarked on technical training at Studio 33 Dance Company. Growing up in La Grange, Meleysha was enveloped in a culture of dance, deeply influenced by her aunt's captivating performances of liturgical and West African dances. In 2021 she seized the opportunity to further her education and skills by pursuing a BFA in dance at University of North Carolina school of the arts . Throughout her studies, she has delved into a diverse range of dance techniques, including Cunningham, Tap, Clogging, Jazz, Musical Theater, Hip hop, partnering, composition, West African, Ballet, Counter Technique, Horton, Limón, and Graham.

Meleysha made history as a featured performer in the University of North Carolina School of the Arts’ first-ever main stage West African production. This groundbreaking performance not only showcased the rich cultural heritage of West African traditions but also marked a major step forward in the school’s embrace of diverse artistic expressions.

Through this role, Meleysha contributed to an innovative blend of traditional dance and contemporary performance, helping to pave the way for future cultural works on campus.

Meleysha also choreographs and instructs on various groups of dancers North Carolina ranging from the age of 2-16 years old.

With each new found skill she weaves them all together through a symphony of boundless expression and creativity.
