Christian Souza

Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Christian Souza has received many opportunities to perform, although some straying outside of his training as a tenor. He received his Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Performance in the spring of 2024, studying under Dr. Brian Arreola.

In concert, Souza has had the opportunity to sing as the baritone soloist for Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, baritone soloist for UNC Charlotte's presentation of Handel's Messiah, and regular soloist and section leader at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in uptown Charlotte. Operatically, he's been able to perform as Elder Gleaton in Floyd's "Susannah", Escamillo and Don José in Bizet's "Carmen", as well as Tamino in a production of "The Magic Flute". Souza has also been fortunate to work on operas with living composers including originating the role of Sennosuke in Asako Hirabayashi's "Hebionna" and an ensemble member in Rebecca Comerford's "Nightingale and the Tower". In the spring of 2024, Souza revisited Musical Theatre playing the role of Kyle B O'Boyle in UNC Charlotte's production of Legally Blonde and originating the role of Chief Orville Aderholt in "THREADS: A New Musical" being developed by Mark Dillon, Raven Monroe, and Stacey Rose

This past fall, he was invited to perform as a part of Opera Carolina's educational outreach program, Opera Xpress, where he sang in Hector Armienta's "Los Coyotes y Las Conejas" as Scrawny. Additionally, he was able to sing in multiple musical story times singing excerpts from shows like Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel", a "Tales of Hoffman" inspired version of "Little Red Riding Hood", and a condensed version of the previously mentioned "Los Coyotes y Las Conejas" as Loco in local libraries and recreation centers in Charlotte.

In addition to performing, Christian has also consistently done well in the North Carolina, Mid-Atlantic, and Semifinal rounds of the National Association of Teachers of Singing student auditions.
