Dance alumnus wins Tony Award as a producer of ‘Merrily We Roll Along’

UNCSA School of Dance alumnus Jordan Medley (B.F.A. ’18) won his first Tony Award as a producer, under his production company Medley Houlihan, for best revival of a musical for "Merrily We Roll Along.” The production won in several categories including best actor, best featured actor and best orchestrations. Medley was also nominated as a producer for “Gutenberg: The Musical.” The 77th annual Tony Awards were held Sunday night, honoring the best achievements of the 2023-24 Broadway season.

“This moment is massive,” Medley shared on the win with his co-producer Sam Houlihan. “Sam and I started this producing journey when we met on ‘Wicked’ last year and to be nominated several times and win a Tony is such a big moment for us.

“We’re excited to celebrate this moment — it’s huge. I’m grateful, proud and very happy of the work we’ve been doing. This is just the beginning for Medley Houlihan and we’re coming for Broadway by storm.”

Medley shared that their production company has more projects in the pipeline for Off West End (aka the London “Fringe”) and additional Broadway shows this fall, including the “Our Town” revival, for which the producing team will join as general partners.

Three additional UNCSA alumni were nominated for Tony Awards; they included  Dance alumna Camille A. Brown (B.F.A. ’01), who was nominated for best choreography for “Hell’s Kitchen”; Design and Production (D&P) alumnus Paul Tazewell (B.F.A. ’86), who was nominated for best costume design of a musical for “Suffs”; and Drama alumnus Orin Wolf (High School ’97), who was nominated as a producer for best musical nominee “Illinoise.”

Numerous alumni from the UNCSA schools of Dance, D&P, Drama and Music are connected to 2024 Tony-nominated and Tony-winning productions and can be viewed on a previous press release.
