On Demand: UNCSA String Ensembles with alumna guest artist Lady Jess
Violinist Lady Jess, née Jessica McJunkins (B.M. ’09), who performs in New York and Los Angeles with collaborators including
Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, The Roots, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, Max Richter, Jay Z
and more, is the featured soloist with the UNCSA Alumni String Quintet performing
the music of Joseph Bologne, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a French classical composer
of African descent.
New Associate Conductor Karen Ní Bhroin conducts the concert, which also includes
a performance by student string ensemble the Bartók Ensemble.
During the concert, Chancellor Cole will present Lady Jess with the Alumni Artpreneur
Award. The $20,000 award, announced in June, honors Lady Jess as an advocate for cultural
equity and intentional hiring. Lady Jess strives to change the standard of hiring
and the demographic of freelance music performers in America by placing artists of
color on stage with incredible performers like Solange, Questlove and Lauryn Hill.
