Choreographed by School of Dance alumnus Juel D. Lane, “When the Beat Drops” first premiered at Fall Dance in 2015. “I don’t only enjoy the dancing — I like to challenge people’s minds and feed people’s
souls,” he says. “As a film director, it's about mixing imagination and feeling to get audiences to
see another perspective of my art.”
Lane directed and choreographed “When the Beat Drops” to explore the relationship between the physical, material world and the sonic world.
The film illustrates a harmonious collaboration with students in the School of Dance, School of Filmmaking students Chris Matthews and Ryan Civale, film faculty member and renowned cinematographer
John LeBlanc and original score by composer Reggie Croslan.
