Violin Professor Ida Bieler is currently scheduled to teach master classes at the Landesakademie in Ochsenhausen, Germany (July 12 – 16, 2020) and the at the International Festival Duchi d'Aquaviva, Atri, Italy (August 17 – 22, 2020). While the future of these two sessions are still in question due to the pandemic, Bieler and her violin colleague Professor Janet Orenstein are maintaining an online studio of students from UNCSA, Europe, South America and Asia. Viola Professor Ulrich Eichenauer is currently engaged to perform and teach in August at the Moritzburg Festival and Academy in Germany. The festival will be deciding in the next few weeks whether to move ahead in light of COVID-19. An invitation to both Eichenauer and violin Professor Kevin Lawrence to give master classes at the Duke University String School this month has been postponed until the fall. In May, violin Professor Kevin Lawrence will teach at the Luby Symposium, ordinarily held in Chapel Hill, NC, but this year to take place online. The Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, of which Lawrence is artistic director, will also be held online this June and July, with 35 faculty and approximately 200 students participating. In August Lawrence will perform chamber music at Music From Salem in New York state. His regular participation in the Brancaleoni Festival in Italy this August will not be possible; this program has been cancelled because of the pandemic. Bass Professor Paul Sharpe will be hosting an online Double Bass Summer Intensive June 29 - July 10, featuring lessons, technique classes and masterclasses. The program is open to players of all ages from middle school to adult, and the registration deadline is June 1. Professor Sharpe’s annual teaching and performing engagements at the Bass Camp at Butler University (with his colleagues in the Bad Boyz of Bass Quartet) and the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival and Chamber Music Intensive will be taking place in a virtual online environment.
