The UNCSA School of Music welcomes Ulrich Eichenauer as its new full time faculty viola professor. A former member of the award-winning Mendelssohn String Quartet and prinicpal violist of the Dresden Philharmonic, Mr. Eichenauer has previously taught at Harvard, the Arts University of Bern and the Menuhin Academy in Switzerland, and has given masterclasses in the US, Germany, Turkey, China, Taiwan and Japan. He was also a member of the faculty at the Guildhall School in London, and served once before as viola professor at UNCSA during the Mendelssohn String Quartet’s residency here.
"I am delighted to be back at UNCSA after so many years, and to see how the school has grown and flourished,“ said Mr. Eichenauer. "I am grateful and honored to be part of such a distinguished faculty, and look forward to working with our wonderful students in this nourishing environment that is made possible not only by all the people who work here, but also by our invaluable and loyal supporters in and around Winston Salem."
Mr Eichenauer trained as an undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate at Musikhochschule Detmold in Germany, and is a distinguished alumnus of the Marlboro Music Festival. He has recorded CDs of solo works by Max Reger and Paul Hindemith, and lesser known chamber music repertoire by Heinrich Kaminski, Ludwig Thuille, Adolf Busch and others.
It is such a pleasure welcome Ulrich Eichenauer into our exceptional team of faculty artists at UNCSA,” commented Brian Cole, Dean of the School of Music. "He is an artist of the highest caliber. The combination of his substantial professional experience as an orchestral player, soloist and chamber musician, along with his deep pedagogical skills in developing young artists, will solidify our viola studio for many years to come."
Recently, Mr. Eichenauer has been a member of the Waldsetin Quartet, and he regularly appears at renowned chamber festivals in the US and abroad. This past year, he served as interim professor at UNCSA, and was chosen from a highly competitive pool of applicants for the full time position.
"We are thrilled to have Ulrich as a full-time member of the UNCSA string faculty, " said Brooks Whitehouse, UNCSA’s cello professor and viola search committee chair. "He is both a distinguished teacher and a consummate artist, and we look forward to our collaboration with him as our school continues to expand and thrive.“
We invite you to meet Mr. Eichenaur and his students at the viola studio website.
