Facilities
The Media and Emerging Technology Lab’s primary production space is housed in a 3,600 square foot 60 x 60 x 60 cube inside the Center for Design Innovation building complex. Within its walls are state of the art digital production technologies. UNCSA is one of only a few schools in the UNC system to have such a facility.
At the heart is our Vicon™ motion capture system which allows us to capture both body and hand movements on multiple performers and captures the camera tracking for visual effects projects. This is all powered by the Unreal game engine 5 running on state-of-the-art Dell™ computers fitted with the high spec NVIDIA RTX™ processors. When this is combined with our real-time visualization pipeline and using and our new high resolution (1.9mm panels) 11 feet tall by 25 feet long LED wall, we can now teach and produce visual effects and virtual productions to the industry standards.
