Duane started with American Express as a Financial Planner in 1983. He then joined First Union (Wells Fargo) in 1986 as a Financial Advisor in Charlotte, NC. Duane transferred to Winston-Salem as an Investment Advisor with First Union in 1992. His primary responsibility was and continues to be, to provide investment council and direction to his clients, their families, local foundations and endowments. Duane received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Morehouse College. Duane is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Registered Financial Consultant (RFC), Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) and a Certified Investment Specialist (CIS). Duane is currently pursuing the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation.
Duane has appeared in Forbes, USA Today, The Washington Post, and the LA Times. He has also been a guest speaker for local, regional, and national TV and Radio Business shows. He has spoken to various groups around the country about investing and the investment industry. He has given investment lectures at numerous universities including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Morehouse College.
Duane has authored two investment guides: A Guide to Building, Growing, and Maintaining a Stock Portfolio and A Guide to Starting and Maintaining an Investment Club. Duane opened the NASDAQ Stock Market on Friday, May 12, 2000. Duane was part of the First Tennessee delegation that closed the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on January 7, 2014. Duane has served on a number of National Advisory Boards including The Investment Company Institutes (ICI: The Mutual Funds Trade Organization), The International Association of Financial Planners (IAFP) Consumer Advisory Board, The Consumer Federation of American (CFA) America Saves Program, and The National Urban Leagues Financial Literacy Board. Duane also founded a National Non-Profit Organization that focused on raising awareness about the importance of saving and investing for women, minorities, and children.
