A photo of students hanging out inside the UNCSA Library CafeAs we are now into our second semester with Sodexo, there are several exciting dining changes and updates for this spring Semester.

Late-Night Pickle Jar

The Late-Night Pickle Jar menu has been expanded to include many favorites such as the chicken poke bowl and vegetarian poke bowl, Philly cheese steak sandwich, cheesy mozzarella sticks and flatbread pizzas. The Pickle Jar meal exchange options were expanded to include chicken and vegetarian Poke Bowls.

Studio Brew

The Studio Brew now offers soup. Each day from 11:00 am until closing two soup flavors are offered, and both come with a baguette. Soup is also now part of the Meal Exchange menu.

Throughout the semester, the Studio Brew will be hosting themed events such as “Paint Your Own Starbucks Cup” and “Fruit Painting” to further engage with our campus.

When returning from Spring Break, two new options of warm sandwiches will be introduced to the menu and will be available from 11:00 am until close to provide additional late-night options for our students.

Hector Manuel Lopez Jr. Dining Hall

In the Hector Manuel Lopez, Jr. Dining Hall, the Panini press has returned to the Deli Station based on student feedback. In the Fall, the Simple Servings Station opened providing designated food choices for students with allergies, gluten intolerance and options for those who prefer simple foods. A gluten free waffle station has now been added to the Simple Servings Station along with several other gluten free options including breads and bagels. Special purple plates, which are washed and stored separately, are now being used at this station.

Menus including nutritional information and allergens are displayed on the five screens around the dining hall with printed signage posted at stations without screens.

Menu changes include the addition of baked fish and roasted chicken during multiple meal periods each week to meet student demands. Other fun foods now offered include chicken and dumplings, vegetarian chicken and dumplings, corn dogs and nacho bars with all the toppings. In addition, Cheerwine has been added to the drink fountain; and the ice cream station has been enhanced with toppings and ice cream cones.

There are now increased themed events and dining activities such as Mocktail Day, Valentine’s Day Dinner, “Global Street Foods: European Edition” and the Monthly Birthday Celebration. Sodexo will be featuring at least one event or themed station each week this semester!

Freshens and Pickle Jar

We are currently renovating the original Pickle Jar location to include both the Pickle Jar and Freshens, which will provide our students with additional dining options. The Freshens location will offer healthy fast food including grilled flatbreads, smoothies and many other nutritious options. The Freshens and Pickle Jar renovation is projected to be completed by the end of May. More information will be shared as this project develops.

As we look toward the fall semester, there will be additional changes and upgrades to meet the dining needs of our campus community! Information on those changes will be shared in future updates.
