Vivian Farahani is a German-Iranian theatermaker studying Directing at the School of Drama.
Originally aiming to study politics, she discovered a passion for storytelling after realizing its ability to compel audiences to reevaluate their perspectives. A family story characterized by migration leads her to ask questions concerning the relationship between culture and behavior, examining how our history, culture, and belief systems influence our perspectives on both global events and personal relationships.
This summer, she was the Directing intern on Simon McBurney's "Wozzeck" at the 2023 Festival D'Aix-en-Provence, where she got to experience & participate in a room valuing process-oriented work. Recent work includes a production of Lucy Prebble's "The Effect," and Sophocles' "Antigone." In the fall season, she directed Lucy Prebble's financial epic "Enron" in the Catawba Theatre at UNCSA, based on the scandal of the American energy company in the height of the neoliberal era. This Spring, she is directing Mike Bartlett’s "An Intervention” in the Keys to the Kingdom season.
