David Gouldin

From an early age, David developed a deep passion for performing in front of an audience. At 13, he attended Perkins School of the Arts in Norwich, NY, where he was introduced to modern dance and partnering. Which would soon become some of his greatest passions. At 14, he had the opportunity to attend the New York State Summer School of the Arts for their modern dance program. This summer opened David’s eyes to a whole new world of dance, allowing him to explore its history and diverse styles. The connections he made during that time continue to inspire him in his work today.

At 15, he auditioned for the High School Contemporary Dance program at UNC School of the Arts, where he would go on to spend his junior and senior years. This experience allowed him to discover and refine his creative process. He believes that every human has an instinct to dance, and that embracing this instinct leads to a uniquely personal experience. Through his creative process, David aims to share his own unique experiences and the stories that emerge from them.

After graduating from UNCSA High School in 2022, he chose to continue his studies at the School of the Arts, where he is set to graduate in Fall 2025 with a B.F.A. in Contemporary Dance. During his time at UNCSA, he has also had the opportunity to learn from esteemed faculty such as Brenda Daniels, Janice Lancaster, Trish Casey, Sean Sullivan, Ming-Lung Yang, Abigail Yager, Kira Blazek Ziaii, Fernando Carrillo, Emily Nicolaou, Dayna Fox, and Jennet Zerbe. He has also had the privilege of performing original works by Rena Butler, Trey McIntyre, Andrew Harper, Amaya Burrell, and Catherine Meredith.

Upon graduating college, David aspires to pursue a career in concert dance while also delving deeper into his own creative process. He is eager to share his love and passion for dance with audiences around the world.
