Preparatory Division
The Community Music School offers classes to students of all ages and ability levels. To make it easier for students and families to plan a course of study that addresses their musical goals, our curriculum is organized into packages. Students may enroll in courses individually, but receive discounts when registering for blocks of instruction to create a well-rounded musical education. Students ages 4 to 18 who wish to enroll in an accelerated program of music study may enroll in the UNCSA Community Music School’s Preparatory Division, which constitutes Packages 2 and 3. Students in the Preparatory Division who demonstrate excellent engagement in private lessons, perform in studio recitals as assigned, and fulfil all group class requirements earn certificates of achievement from the UNCSA Community Music School at the conclusion of each semester of enrollment. Students enrolled in Royal Conservatory Method theory classes may earn internationally-recognized certifications through the Royal Conservatory Method, starting with RCM Theory Level 5.
Musical Explorer
Package 1
Curriculum
- Full Semester (16 weeks) of private lessons
- Children’s Chorus (grades 2-6) or Musicianship (Adults)
The Musical Explorer track is the basic level of engagement for students. The group class component (Children’s Chorus or Musicianship) is included with full-semester private lesson registrations at no additional charge.
Pricing: same as 30, 45, 60 minute semester lessons
Savings: fee waiver for Chorus/Musicianship and 25% off Group Piano for Adult Beginners.
Preparatory Division
Package 2 (ages 4 - 10)
Curriculum
- Full Semester (16 weeks) of private lessons
- Children’s Chorus (grades 2-6)
- Royal Conservatory Theory classes (Grades 2 - 12)
Pricing: add $225 to pricing of 30, 45, 60 minute semester lessons
Savings: fee waiver for Children’s Chorus, plus 25% off cost of theory class
Preparatory Division
Package 3 (ages 10 - 18)
Curriculum
- Full Semester (16 weeks) of private lessons
- Children’s Chorus I or II (grades 2 -8)
- Royal Conservatory Theory Classes (grades 2 - 12)
- Chamber Ensemble (Jazz Combo or traditional chamber ensemble)
- Large Ensemble (proof of enrollment in approved community-based group* needed to receive Package III discount)
- Participation in UNCSA School of Music studio events as assigned and approved by School of Music faculty
Pricing: TBD on specific chamber ensemble added to cost of 30, 45, 60 minute semester lessons)
Savings: fee waiver for Children’s Chorus, plus 25% off theory class and chamber ensemble
*WS Symphony Youth Orchestras Program, Wachovia Winds, NC Youth Brass Band, Winston-Salem Youth Chorus (families may petition for other ensembles to be considered)
