"Welcome Home"
For the longest time, I've been trying to figure out what home is. Growing up, I've spent a lot more time in other people's houses and public spaces than my own, which has led me to form countless definitions of what home could be.
With the help of a few friends, I was able to transform a part of the tunnel on campus, decorating the space as I imagine my ideal home to be: full of music, lights, and love. Also, having the people I treasure interacting within the installation, on top of including pictures featuring them, helped with making a heartwarming video that highlights the memories we share. The songs I used, all from Japanese Breakfast's album Soft Sounds From Another Planet, further emphasizes this message of homecoming and reflection upon an insightful year.
Rather than limiting the definition of home as a place with one's necessities, I believe home to be a feeling that encompasses comfort and warmth; by creating this video, I will remember how I've found that during my time at UNCSA.
