David P. Nelson, UNCSA Provost

David Nelson was appointed Provost by Chancellor John Mauceri in July 2010. He has served in administrative roles as a college Dean and Provost, and as Headmaster of a K-12 College Preparatory school. He has taught at the collegiate level in varied disciplines, including music, religious studies, and cultural studies. His scholarship on religion and culture was recognized in 2004 with a grant from Yale University.

The Provost oversees the academic affairs of the university, working with deans, faculty, administration, and staff to ensure a learner-focused environment that is committed to the success of every student. The Academic Affairs office coordinates with several offices to this end (including the Library and the offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, Institutional Research, and the Registrar), serves the deans and faculty in the development of academic and artistic curricula, and manages the budget for the instructional programs of the university.

The Office of Academic Affairs provides guidance, interpretation, and administration of personnel policies, procedures, and guidelines related to faculty at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, including:  review and approval of faculty appointments, reappointments, job changes, and salary actions.
