Fletcher Opera Institute: La Rondine
Commedia lyrica in tre atti (Lyric comedy in three acts) / Sung in Italian with English Supertitles / Music by Giacomo Puccini / Libretto by Giuseppe Adami, based on a libretto by Alfred Maria Willner and Heinz Reichert / James Allbritten, musical director / Steven LaCosse, stage director / Angela Vanstory Ward, musical preparation.
“I saw you and dreamed of love.” Magda confesses this to Ruggero, remembering the first day they met. However, at that time she was “kept” by the wealthy Parisian, Rambaldo. Come experience the charm of the score that could have been Puccini’s only operetta, and discover how it ends for Magda and Ruggero.

Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet
Founded in 1988 during the era of Herbert von Karajan, Philharmonisches Bläserquintett Berlin (The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet) has been heralded as the best ensemble of its kind in the world and continues to astonish audiences worldwide with their range of expression, tonal spectrum and conceptual unity. Performing great standards of the repertoire and new masterpieces by Franz Danzi, Kalevi Aho, Darius Milhaud and Carl Nielsen.

Faculty artist Taimur Sullivan joins the UNCSA Wind Ensemble in a concerto for saxophone and wind ensemble. James Barnes’ profoundly moving Symphony No. 3, a very personal response to the mysteries of death and life, completes the program. Dr. Michael Dodds conducts.

Artist-faculty member Sarah Johnson, violin, presents a recital of works for violin and piano from the past and present. Favorites from the Baroque era to the 20th century explore the spectrum of the violin and piano.

The hit Broadway musical that weaves Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood’s tales around an innocent baker and his wife’s attempt to break a terrible curse. A story about parents, children and partners trying to protect each other from the scary unknowns that lurk in the dark.

Harpist Jacquelyn Bartlett, flutist Debra Reuter-Pivetta and violist Sheila Browne will present an evening of exhilarating and luscious music featuring Beethoven’s famous Serenade transcribed by Ami Maayani, Sofia Gubaidulina’s Garten von Freuden und Traurigkeiten and Camille Saint-Saëns’ Fantasie for Violin and Harp with UNCSA faculty violinist Kevin Lawrence.

An exciting program featuring George Balanchine’s La Source, Bill T. Jones’ D-Man in the Waters, a world premiere by School of Dance alumna Emery LeCrone and a special presentation from the Forsythe Project – “culminating in performance, former Forsythe dancer Douglas Becker leads a repertory exploration referencing his many years in creative process with William Forsythe.”
