Production and Project Management
Production and Project Management
The Production and Project Management graduate concentration provides students with sound general business management and leadership training in production, people and project management. The concentration develops inspired leaders who will work responsibly in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors to manage and lead creative projects and business endeavors.
Master of Fine Arts
First Year
In your first year of the graduate Production and Project Management concentration,
working closely with other Design and Production areas, you will receive hands-on,
practical experience working within the disciplines of theater, dance, classical music
and opera. You will complete coursework in management and marketing and enroll in
the first of three elective Design & Production courses.
A key differentiating experience in the concentration will be the integration of semester-long in-class projects (all three years) with top creative organizations. These immersive project experiences will provide the invaluable opportunity for the students to learn how to apply people, project and management skills within for-profit environments.
Second Year
Classes during your second year will include in-depth studies in accounting and financial
management, negotiation, strategic planning and leadership and a course on the role
of human resources in organizations. You will continue to work on projects for the
school’s productions, with expanded responsibilities within the Production and Project
Manager role. You will also begin the process of selecting a topic to be the focus
of your third-year thesis project.
Third Year
Your thesis is the primary focus of your third year, and you will also complete an
internship or special project in the fall. Your practical-production expectations
will continue, and classroom instruction will widen to include law and the arts and
entrepreneurship/intrapreneurship.

Nearly all of UNCSA alumni start careers in their chosen field. The Production and Project Management concentration will provide you with the tools, experience and guidance needed to enter the professional world in the for-profit and the non-profit sectors, and with the ability to serve an array of projects across many disciplines.
